Five rules to remember when considering Breast Augmentation
- Patients need to do their research when choosing a surgeon. How attractive the breasts look has a lot to do with the chosen surgeon's skill.
- When looking for a surgeon, check out the Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery website for advice. www.accs.org.au
- Look at before & after photos to determine the shape you want.
- Have an idea of the cup size you would like to be but also be guided by the surgeon's knowledge.
- The most often used implants in Australia are cohesive silicon gel, they give the most natural look and feel. Saline implants can wrinkle and have a higher failure rate.

For
a truly uplifting experience, go up a cup size in an hour without
surgery, writes Becky Barker.
It
could only be a matter of months before women are queuing up for
a walk-in, walk-out, go-back-to-work boob job in Australia. Dr Anoop
Rastogi, who has a practice in Double Bay, started clinical trials on
three patients with the new, injectable, gel-like filler Macrolane
last month and says the patients love the look.
"There
was a little bit of swelling, they took mild painkillers for a couple
of days and were back at work the same day," says Dr Rastogi,
who administered the treatment at 40-minute appointments where the
subjects received a local anaesthetic under light sedation.

Decisions and Incisions
Where do I make my incisions for for Breast Augmentation and why?
The infra mammary incision that I use for my Breast Augmentation's is the most commonly used incision.
I use this type of incision because at 12 months post surgery
the scars are barely visible and it also allows for the greatest
surgical accuracy, coupled with the lowest rate of complications associated
with Breast Augmentation .

What is the downtime after surgery and what can’t you do?
Pain and downtime both continue to be
rapidly reduced because of the rapid recovery technique that I
implement in all my breast augmentation surgeries.
Patients are
usually well enough to go out to dinner or off to the movies the
following day after a procedure and only need a weekend recovery
before returning to work on Monday.
It
is always advised however to avoid any heavy lifting and/or vigorous
exercise for 6 weeks following surgery, which allows the implants
time to fully stabilise into position.

Implant Controversy
There is a lot of controversy with
implants.
What type do I use and why?
Scientific
literature overwhelmingly supports the benefits of Polyurethane
implants, as do I.
Capsular Contracture and premature sag are the 2
most common complications associated with Breast Augmentation surgery
and both of these complications are radically reduced with the use of
Polyurethane implants.

Preparing the mind for surgery
As well as considering the body,
it’s also important to look inside the mind. Patients need to be in
the right head space for surgery and by that I mean analysing their
motivations for the procedure. Ask yourself questions like, why do I
want to do this?
It’s imperative to have all the facts
when making a decision about surgery so I recommend my patients to do
some background research so that they have a good understanding of
their different options and are able to prepare thoroughly.
It’s a good idea for patients to
attempt to gain a picture in their own mind of how they want to look,
in terms of both shape and size so that they can communicate this
image with their Doctor.
Finally,
research the Doctor you are going to consult with, the Doctor is
extremely vital to the outcome and each Doctor achieves different
results aesthetically and has a different skill level.
